The north-eastern tip of Tenerife hides a UNESCO biosphere where laurel forest older than the last ice age drips over the road. The TF-12 ridge route threads between two oceans of cloud — and most visitors never see it.

San Cristóbal de La Laguna → Mirador Cruz del Carmen → Taganana switchbacks → Benijo beach → return via Tejina. Allow half a day; allow a full day if you stop everywhere you will want to stop.
Which car
Narrow forest lanes favour compact cars: the Toyota Yaris Hybrid glides silently through protected villages, and the Yaris Cross adds ride height for the cobbled sections. Save the cabrio for the coast — under the laurel canopy it rains even on sunny days.
